SEALS
The pressure difference between the flow of air and flue gas requires to provide the Rotary Air Preheater with sealing systems to help separate flows in the preheater which subjects to dynamical deformation due to temperature changes. In the sealing system we can distinguish control systems of so called radial and axial wings and the seals themselves, described below.
CIRCUMFERENTIAL SEALS
As the name would suggest, they seal the circumference of the rotor. Their purpose is to prevent air and flue gas from entering between the housing wall and rotating rotor.
RADIAL SEALS
Are mounted radially on the rotor. They provide sealing for the space between the rotor and the radial wings, and so reduce the amount of air entering into the flue gas during rotation of the rotor.
LONGITUDINAL SEALS
Are mounted along the radial wings. They seal the space between the moving radial wing and the upper or lower plate of the housing.
AXIAL SEALS
The air that has not been retained by the circumferential seals circulates between the wall of the housing and the rotor. The purpose of these seals, mounted on the outer jacket of the rotor and working together with the axial (side) wings is to reduce leaks caused by this air.
SIDE SEALS
They are mounted around the axial (side) wings and seal the space between the moving axial (side) wings. Axial wings work together with the axial tapes attached to the rotor jacket.
